Beyond
Barriers strives to increase farmworker family involvement in their
education and community. The project works to strengthen the social
service networks that support families in their goals.
Many barriers
prevent farmworker families from building a strong connection to their
learning environments. The farmworker families are often unable to
find ways to communicate effectively with their child’s teachers;
unable to understand the educational system their child appears to be
struggling in; and unable to meet their basic needs.
All of these
factors make it difficult for farmworker parents to become involved in
their education and community. It is these areas that the Beyond
Barriers Project strives to improve.
In addition to
RCMA, sponsors of this project include the Florida Department of
Children and Families, with funding from the Family Preservation and
Support Services Act. |
